This is year has been too much. We have lost too many music greats in 2016. George Michael joins the growing list of music greats; Prince, Phife Dawg (A Tribe Called Quest), David Bowie, John Berry (Beastie Boys), Sharon Jones, Merle Haggard, Frank Sinatra, Jr., Vanity, Maurice White (Earth, Wind & Fire), Kantner (Jefferson Airplane), Glenn Frey (Eagles) and more.

George Michael, died over the Christmas holiday, his publicist, Connie Filippello, confirms in a statement sent to USA TODAY:

“It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period. The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.”

Micheal’s cause of death was heart failure, according to Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter, which was first reported by the BBC. The musician died in Goring, England.
